Tobias Hesse (DE)

Born 1974 in Stassfurt. Lives and work in Chemnitz, Gemany.
Autodidact – full time proffsionel artist since 1997.

“Tobias Hesse paintings are created with all the world’s items and environments – from Islamic cupola buildings and humble houses in no-man’s-land to middleclass men with moons and children turning their backs. Nevertheless the world of the pictures seems lonely, and most likely it could be a world heading for the precipice. The people seems disconnected from their surroundings or from a community. Everybody is practising some kind of activity but without noticing the person next to them.
One aspect of the work of Tobias Hesse therefore seems close to surrealisms apparently collocation of coincidences and items, but with full power because of the experiments with the perspective of the space. Another aspect will be the neo-expressionism of the 1980’ties, emphasises a psychological motivating force.
It is the enormous range of imagination that counts. When everything can happen, and the world nevertheless is heading against destruction, and those who are together still are alone: “Let’s go for a drive” a voice says.

Hesse’s energy lies in the intense colours in the middle of all the dark – from pink to light green and clear blue. In the colours there is still hope. Also when it is sliding.”
